"In a highly regulated industry such as gambling, it is essential that we understand clients’ objectives so that we can assist in achieving favourable business outcomes that are compliant with regulatory requirements."

Sam joined Addisons in early 2019 following a move from Malta to Australia.

Sam has over 15 years of legal experience and has practised in gambling law since 2010. His background in gambling law stems from roles with the Maltese gambling regulator, the Malta Gaming Authority, and in private practice as a senior associate with a leading Maltese law firm.

Sam has advised and assisted international land-based and online gambling operators (from start-ups to large companies) in various stages of addressing their licensing and compliance requirements. He has assisted clients with applying and qualifying for gambling licences in Australia, Malta, the UK, and other jurisdictions. Sam has assisted licensed gambling operators in relation to understanding and addressing licence and regulatory requirements in order to comply with such requirements and to avoid enforcement and reputational risk.

Sam has assisted clients in understanding and complying with the notification and approval requirements applicable to investments in a gambling business.

In view of Sam’s regulatory background and experience, he has assisted and advised clients in their correspondence and interactions with Australian and international gambling regulators to achieve positive outcomes for clients.

Sam also has first-hand in-house experience with online gambling operators. This provides him with further insight into operators’ requirements.
