It is of the utmost importance that I give advice which is technically correct and provides a commercial and common-sense approach to solving legal problems. These objectives are at the forefront of everything I do.

Assisting clients to achieve their goals gives me great satisfaction and I consider that their success is my success. Working as part of a client’s team and building an understanding of the dynamics within which they work allows me to successfully navigate them through complex transactions.

My expertise is in corporate and commercial law, with a particular focus on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and large scale commercial contracts. I have advised both public and private clients across a broad range of industries, but I have a particular interest in the food and beverage sector. I joined Addisons in 2004 and was appointed to Special Counsel in 2016.

The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) — advised on its joint acquisition – together with its local bottler, Coca-Cola Amatil – of a 45% equity stake in the Made Group, an independent beverage manufacturer that owns popular brands Cocobella, Rokeby Farms, Impressed juices and NutrientWater. This transaction was strategically important for TCCC as it moves to become a total beverage company and ensure its product portfolio responds to consumer demands. It was a highly complex transaction which required Addisons to work collaboratively with our client and leverage our in-depth knowledge of their business.

Bega Cheese Limited — provided general commercial advice to Bega Cheese Limited over a number of years, including advising Bega on its strategically important supply terms with farmers. Notably, advised Bega Cheese in relation to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) Dairy Inquiry, which concluded in April 2018. This required us to assist Bega Cheese to navigate multiple requests from the ACCC for the production of documents and submissions on a variety of issues. More recently, we have also advised Bega Cheese on its submissions to the ACCC in relation to the ACCC’s unfair contracts investigations of those in the dairy industry, with pleasing results for Bega given that it was one of the few major dairy processors not required by the ACCC to amend its milk supply agreements.

The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) — advised in relation to its acquisition of a strategic stake in an Australian start-up beverage company – the Inside Out Group – which produces fresh non-dairy milk under the brand, Inside Out. This was the first deal completed by TCCC in a string of local transactions to grow its portfolio of healthy products and to invest in an innovative, early stage business responding to consumer demand for plant-based beverages.

Surf Hardware International — advised Surf Hardware International on the acquisition of the Kanulock business, a market leader in premium lockable tie-down products which allow kayaks and surfboards to be secured safely to roof-racks. This deal was strategically important to Surf Hardware International in seeking to expand its portfolio of products and required me to work collaboratively with intellectual property partner, Karen Anne Hayne, to ensure a smooth transition of this business.

Indigenous Business Australia — advised on the sale of 75% of the shares in Consolidated Manufacturing Enterprise, a pet food manufacturing business. This transaction also involved the sale of units in the trust that owned the property the business is carried on, which added additional complexity to the matter. The in-house legal team at IBA wanted the flexibility to run certain aspects of this transaction themselves and we worked in a collaborative way with IBA to ensure they were always able to rely on us and our experience in regularly advising on these matters to assist them as they encountered issues along the way.
