Shanna works closely with both local and international companies on all regulatory and commercial matters relating to the conduct of their business within the gaming and gambling industries.

She advises various local and international gambling operators, private equity and investment firms, media, entertainment and technology companies and affiliates on the evolving Australian legal landscape relevant to the gaming and gambling industry, with clients ranging from start-ups to large multinationals.

Shanna’s practice focuses particularly on regulatory and policy advices, licensing and compliance issues, transactions and general commercial matters. The diverse legal and commercial issues that arise in this context require her to advise across a broad range of areas of law, including gambling, intellectual property, consumer, advertising and marketing (including promotions and sponsorships), privacy, e-commerce and technology.

Shanna is an active participant in the gaming and gambling industry, which involves speaking at conferences, presenting at industry seminars and co-authoring chapters and articles in industry publications relating to current legal issues affecting the gambling industry.

Allwyn

advised on various matters relating to its indirect investment in a Queensland casino and its award of the UK Fourth National Lottery Licence, as well as ongoing gambling regulatory advice and assistance in relation to licensing, investment and other commercial activities of members of the Allwyn Group both in Australian and overseas.

Concepts

assisted in the conceptualisation of products and services with potential gambling law implications (including, for example, TV program and app concepts). Clients include leading global media, entertainment and leisure multinationals.

Dabble

provided gambling regulatory advice to Dabble in connection with shareholder investments, including its capital raising and shareholder sale facility, which involved investments by Tabcorp.

Games

advised developers, suppliers and publishers of games (including video, computer and mobile games) on various regulatory and commercial matters.

Gambling operators

advised various clients generally on the conduct of a gaming/gambling business in Australia and overseas under applicable laws, including gambling law, Australian Consumer Law and legal issues relating to advertising, sponsorships, privacy, intellectual property, e-commerce and general commercial arrangements. Clients include local and global gambling operators, gaming machine suppliers, software developers and media, entertainment and technology companies.

Mergers & Acquisitions

advised numerous local and international parties (including gambling operators and private equity firms) in connection with acquisitions and investments in the gambling sector.

New technologies

advised on, and assisted with, the introduction in Australia by new market entrants of innovative gaming products utilising new technologies in non-traditional applications requiring consideration of not just gambling law but also other legal areas, such as environmental, consumer and technology law. Clients include international charitable lottery operators and technology companies.

Starwood Capital Group

provided gambling regulatory advice to Starwood, and other lenders, in connection with the financing of Blackstone’s $8.9 billion acquisition of Crown Resorts Limited.

Trade promotions

advised on, and assisted with, the conduct of trade promotions (including advertising) and preparation of relevant customer facing documents in respect of the conduct of trade promotions.
