Intellectual Property

Addisons' intellectual property (IP) team assists Australian and international clients to protect their valuable IP assets. The work undertaken by the team includes trade mark prosecution, IP litigation and IP commercialisation projects.

Addisons’ IP team has broad experience in all facets of intellectual property. Our work involves the full spectrum of intellectual property advice including trade marks, copyright, designs and patents.

Our IP practice has extensive experience in advising clients on trade mark protection and enforcement as well as commercialisation and licensing of copyright, patents and trade marks. We are also regularly involved in significant intellectual property litigation, often with cross border aspects.

The partners and senior lawyers within the IP team work closely with the business and its executives, with the aim of providing practical, strategic and commercial advice which is workable for the business. Our clients come from a range of industries including food and beverage, financial services and insurance, pharmaceutical and health, technology as well as media and entertainment.

In 2019, the Addisons’ IP team was Highly Recommended in the World Trademark Review 1000, receiving the following praise: “Unlike other full-service firms that operate a supporting IP unit, Sydney outfit Addisons has a dedicated focus on intellectual property.”

And by the World Trademark Review – Australia – 2019: “Straddling the contentious/non-contentious divide with dexterity, the firm draws on a select network of foreign associates to provide the same high standards no matter where its illustrious clients need support; thus, it strikes a chord with business-to-consumer companies such as Virgin and Formula One.”
