As an environmental regulation and legal risk management specialist, I’ve worked closely with major corporations, small to mid-sized businesses, individuals, industry and employer groups, Unions, NGOs, community stakeholders, and Government agencies across a number of jurisdictions providing smart and efficient solutions to complex environmental regulatory issues and disputes.
As well as advising clients in relation to front-end licencing and compliance matters, I specialise in helping clients manage the legal issues that surround contamination/pollution, environmental legacy matters and critical incidents.
I assist clients to develop and implement strategies for achieving successful, sensible and pragmatic outcomes when dealing with government regulations and regulators, whether that be through advice and representation in the course of negotiating an agreement or managing complex civil and criminal environmental enforcement proceedings.
New South Wales EPA — class 5 criminal proceedings in relation to serious pollution incidents including Sydney Harbour diesel spill, mine blasting, retention dam collapse and class 1 proceedings in relation to contested licence variations and refusals. Advising the EPA’s Waste Crime Taskforce on the use of officer powers including major search and seizure operations, warrants, use of surveillance devices and forensic imaging.
Liquor and Gaming NSW — advising LGNSW in relation to compliance and enforcement matters, governance, GIPA, ID scanning, new gaming products and licences.
NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment — advising on water licensing compliance/enforcement matters.
SafeWork South Australia — advising on serious workplace incident related investigations and prosecutions including workplace fatalities Construction Services Australia v SafeWork SA.
South Australia Police — Counsel for the Crown in various appeals matters to the Supreme Court of South Australia including reported cases of Dwyer v Police and Gannon v Police.
