Michiel is a highly capable organisation leader and Board member with experience in managing the broad range of risk, compliance and ESG frameworks across government and corporate sector environments. He has led a range or regulators across Australia and has developed deep understanding of the most effective ways to implement risk and compliance approaches.

Michiel is a member of the Addisons Gambling team, with particular emphasis on gambling regulation, Financial Crime compliance (for example anti-money laundering compliance), and Ethical Sourcing (including modern slavery risk). His wide-ranging experience makes him uniquely suited to support businesses in reviewing and improving their approach to compliance risk.

Having delivered compliance programs using informal tools and maturity models through to implementations using ISO standards, he can help businesses of all sizes to find the right pitch.

Michiel’s appointment is non-legal and he works with clients in an advisory capacity.

Compliance framework — design and review

Corporate Governance — review policy alignment with regulatory requirements, advise on leading practice, review existing policy performance. Support development of ESG strategy and transparency processes.

Enterprise Risk Management — including GRC systems (selection and development).

Ethical business practice — assisting with privacy, AI risk management, human rights and modern slavery risk management, supplier codes and risk control reviews.

Gambling — policy, regulatory strategy and safer gambling practices.

Financial crime — risk assessments, program development and improvement, reviews of anti-bribery and corruption, foreign corrupt practice, fraud and AML/CTF programs.

Regulatory strategy — assisting in licensing, product approval and regulatory engagement approaches to optimise transparency with regulators and reduce risk. Support your regulatory response during investigations, enforcement other regulatory action.

Whistle blower programmes — reviewing and drafting policies and procedures, assurance testing and program performance review, advising on ICT options.
